Algarian Stormrider is an epic flying mount added in patch 10.1.7 of the Dragonflight expansion and tied to the pre-purchase of The War Within expansion. It is a stormrook crackling with lightning, capable of flight even in the harshest conditions. The Stormrider was the first non-dragon mount to support the Dragonriding system.
Description from the mount collection: "This lightning-charged stormrook, undaunted by even the harshest flying conditions, was trained to soar above the island of Dorn and dive into the depths beneath it".
There are two ways to obtain the Algarian Stormrider:
After purchase, the mount becomes available on all characters on your account starting at level 10.
The Algarian Stormrider features 12 appearance customization categories. All options are unlocked immediately upon receiving the mount — you do not need to farm manuscripts or complete quests. To change the appearance, visit a Transmogrification Rostrum located in Valdrakken (Dragon Isles) or Dornogal (Khaz Algar).
Blue, purple, yellow, red — four base plumage colors, each completely changing the mount's appearance.
Black and red, gold and blue, silver and yellow, bronze and purple — four saddle and harness color variations.
Six beak shapes: sickle, eagle, predator, raven, razor, and armored.
No bracers or with bracers — two options.
Five options: no chestpiece, simple harness, ornate harness, heavy plate, jeweled plate.
Four options: no adornments, tufted, bushy, wild.
Five options: no crown, straight, curled, ridged, spiked.
Three options: no helm, visor, crown.
Three options: no saddle, light hammer, light torch.
Three options: simple, majestic, feathered horns.
Four options: simple, tufted, wild, shaggy.
Three options: no adornments, neck plate, pendant.
The Algarian Stormrider originally had a unique ability called 
Lightning Rush. With the release of The War Within in patch 11.0.0, this ability became available to all mounts via a choice node in the flight skill tree.
This ability is an alternative to the "Whirling Surge" ability in the choice node of the flight skill tree. You can switch between them at any time.
Visit the Transmogrification Rostrum — many players forget about customization after receiving the mount. Stop by Valdrakken or Dornogal to tailor the Stormrider's appearance to your taste. Combinations of skin color and armor give 16 unique base color schemes
Match a pet to it — if you own the Epic Edition, use one of the four stormrook battle pets (Squally, Flash, Gale, Thundo) to create a unified visual style with your mount
Try "Lightning Rush" — this ability is great for long straight flights. Fly along the walls of canyons or caves to quickly stack 10 charges and activate the speed boost
A mount for Khaz Algar dungeons — the Stormrider's compact size gives an advantage when navigating tight spaces in the underground zones of The War Within expansion
Watch for sales — the Battle.net shop periodically runs sales. In December 2025, the mount was sold at a 50% discount, lowering the price to $12.50
Transmog set — the Heroic and Epic editions also include the "Stormrider's Attire" transmog set, which can be upgraded to the "Thundering Stormrider's Attire" with additional effects by completing racing quests on the Dragon Isles
